Bonaventure
1221-1274 13th century Feast day: July 15
Letting knowledge become prayer, seeking God with mind and heart.
Who was Bonaventure?
An Italian Franciscan, theologian and minister general of his order, a friend of Thomas Aquinas. A man of governance as much as of contemplation, he wrote a theology in which knowledge leads to love and study to wonder. He is called the 'Seraphic Doctor.'
In their own words
Do not think it enough to read without unction, to reflect without devotion, to study without wonder.
Ask grace, not learning; desire, not understanding.
