Claire d'Assise
1194-1253 13th century Feast day: August 11
The gaze held on Christ until one becomes what one beholds.
Who was Claire d'Assise?
A young noblewoman of Assisi, she slipped away one night in 1212 to follow Francis and embrace radical poverty. Enclosed at San Damiano, she lived there more than forty years, wresting from the pope the 'privilege of poverty' that others tried to deny her. Her enclosure was never a flight from the world, but a way of carrying it.
In their own words
Gaze upon Him, consider Him, contemplate Him, longing to imitate Him.
Place your mind before the mirror of eternity, place your soul in the brightness of glory.
Totally love Him who gave Himself totally for your love.
