Who was Ellen Lakshmi Goreh?
Born in Benares to a Brahmin family that had become Christian, motherless within days, she was raised in England by a missionary couple. She wrote a hymn on the secret of God's presence which passed into hymn books around the world. Returning to India, she taught and worked among the women of Allahabad for more than forty years.

In the secret of His presence how my soul delights to hide. Oh, how precious are the lessons which I learn at Jesus' side.
Earthly cares can never vex me, neither trials lay me low; for when Satan comes to tempt me, to the secret place I go.
