Who was Florence Li Tim-Oi?
The daughter of a Hong Kong doctor, at her baptism she received the name Tim-Oi, 'much beloved'. In 1944, with the Japanese occupation cutting Macao off from any priest, a bishop ordained her a priest: the first woman in the Anglican Communion. After the war, under pressure, she gave up exercising her ministry, worked on a farm and in a factory through the Cultural Revolution, and was not restored until she was past seventy.
