Andrew Murray
1828-1917 19th century
The patient school of prayer, learned day after day like a friendship that abides.
Who was Andrew Murray?
A Dutch Reformed pastor born in South Africa, he served parishes of the Cape Colony and travelled the country on horseback. Author of more than two hundred books, he made prayer and communion with Christ the heart of his teaching, in plain language meant for ordinary people.
In their own words
Abiding in Jesus is nothing but the giving up of oneself to be ruled and taught and led, and so resting in the arms of Everlasting Love.
It is simply weakness entrusting itself to a Mighty One to be kept, the unfaithful one casting self on One who is altogether trustworthy and true.
Humility is nothing but the disappearance of self in the vision that God is all.
