Who was Nicodème l'Hagiorite?
Born on Naxos, a monk of Mount Athos, he spent his life copying, correcting and editing the texts of the Fathers so as to place them back in the hands of those who pray. With Macarius of Corinth he gathered the Philokalia, which would carry the prayer of the heart far beyond Greece. He also adapted books from the West, untroubled by where they came from.
