Who was Apolo Kivebulaya?
A former Ugandan soldier converted around thirty, he set out as an Anglican catechist toward the Mountains of the Moon, to Boga in present-day Congo. Beaten and imprisoned, he always came back, and walked for decades to carry the Gospel to the peoples of the Ituri forest. He asked to be buried facing the forest, toward those still waiting.

Christ appeared before me as a man. It was like seeing a man who was my brother.
He said to me: Go and preach in the forest, because I am with you.
I stood and looked far away to the Congo. The prospect terrified me.
Grant that I may be loved by you and by your people. Amen.
