Enrique Shaw
1921-1962 20th century
Answering for those who depend on us; other people's work carried as a charge before God.
Who was Enrique Shaw?
An Argentine naval officer turned business owner, he ran a glassworks of more than a thousand workers and founded his country's association of Christian business leaders. He refused to lay people off in crises, opened his books to the unions, and held that an employer must answer for what he does with the lives that depend on him. Struck by cancer at forty, he received blood from his own workers, who queued up to give it.
In their own words
We need the workers more than they need us.
