Who was Faustine Kowalska?
Fifth of ten children in a poor Polish family, Helena Kowalska entered the Sisters of Mercy and took the name Faustina. Cook, gardener, doorkeeper, she led a hidden life, keeping a diary in which she recorded her trust in God's mercy. She died of tuberculosis at thirty-three, leaving the Diary that became one of the most widely read spiritual texts of the twentieth century.
