Who was Frère Roger de Taizé?
The son of a Swiss pastor, he settled in 1940 in the Burgundian village of Taizé, where he hid Jewish refugees before founding a community of brothers from all Christian confessions. Generations of young people from around the world have come to pray with them in repeated chants and silence. He was killed during evening prayer on August 16, 2005, among his brothers.
