Christiana Tsai
1890-1984 20th century
Ceasing to ask why, in order to ask what there is to do.
Who was Christiana Tsai?
Daughter of a high official of the Qing dynasty in Nanjing, she became a Christian at a mission school and paid dearly for it inside her own household, which she eventually won over. Chronic malaria left her unable to bear light, and she spent the last forty years of her life in a darkened room, where she received thousands of visitors from everywhere.
In their own words
Throughout my many years of illness, I have never asked God why He allowed me to suffer so long. I only ask what He wants me to do.
My bed is not a prison, but a training school. The Holy Spirit is my mentor, and my visitors are my homework.
I am the Queen of the Dark Chamber, but the Lord is the Lord of Light.
