Ignace de Loyola
1491-1556 16th century Feast day: July 31
To seek and find God in all things, and to hand over to him all one's freedom.
Who was Ignace de Loyola?
A Basque nobleman and soldier, wounded at the siege of Pamplona, he discovered God during his long convalescence, reading the life of Christ and of the saints. Becoming a pilgrim and beggar, he composed the Spiritual Exercises and founded the Society of Jesus, turned toward mission to the ends of the earth. He taught to seek and find God in all things.
In their own words
Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will; all that I have and possess, you have given me; to you, Lord, I return it.
Give me only your love and your grace; that is enough for me.
