Who was Paulina du Cœur agonisant de Jésus?

Brought from the Trentino at ten years old to a colony of Italian immigrants in Santa Catarina, Brazil, she was first of all the girl called in to sit up with the sick in the neighbouring houses. At twenty-four she moved with a friend into a hut to care for a woman with cancer whom no one would take in: that was the beginning of her congregation. Later, in São Paulo, she took in freed slaves grown old and alone. Diabetic, with one arm amputated, she died at seventy-six.
