Who was Charlotte Elliott?
An Englishwoman of Brighton, an invalid from her thirties, she lived fifty years in a health that prevented almost everything. One evening when the whole household was busy with a charity effort from which she was excluded, she wrote the hymn Just as I Am. It would be sung by millions who knew nothing of her.
