Patient, stubborn prayer for those we love, held through the years.
Who was Monique?
A Christian of North Africa and mother of Augustine of Hippo, she carried for years the hope of her wayward son's conversion, following him from Carthage to Milan. Her tears and constancy, Augustine would say, could not be in vain. Soon after her son's baptism she died at Ostia, at peace, asking only one thing: that she be remembered at the altar of the Lord.

Lay this body anywhere; let not the care of it trouble you. This only I ask, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord.
Nothing is far from God.
One thing there was for which I desired to linger a while in this life: that I might see you a Catholic Christian before I died. My God has granted this to me more abundantly.
