Nersès Shnorhali
v. 1102-1173 12th century
Prayer hour after hour: to confess one's faith and ask again for mercy through the whole day.
Who was Nersès Shnorhali?
Catholicos of the Armenian Church, called 'the Gracious' for the gentleness of his writings, he was a poet, a musician and a worker for unity among the Churches. To him are owed hymns still sung and a long prayer of the believer, told hour by hour, in which the soul confesses its faith and asks for mercy.
In their own words
With faith I confess and adore you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Have mercy upon your creatures, and upon me, a sinner above all.
O Christ, guardian of all, may your right hand guard and shelter me, day and night.
