Porphyrios de Kavsokalyvia
1906-1991 20th century Feast day: December 2
The way of love rather than of anxious effort, and God sought as one loves.
Who was Porphyrios de Kavsokalyvia?
A Greek shepherd who became a monk at twelve on Mount Athos, he spent most of his life as the humble priest of an Athens clinic. Gifted with a discernment of hearts that he hid, he taught that the love of Christ, and not the struggle against evil, heals the soul. His conversations were gathered after his death.
In their own words
Do not fight the darkness. Turn on the light, and the darkness goes away by itself.
Christ is everything. He is joy, he is life, he is the light.
It is not through fear that we become better, but through love.
