Sigrid Undset

1882-1949 20th century

The long search for truth through one's work, unto prayer without deceit.

Who was Sigrid Undset?

A Norwegian novelist, she painted with rare truth the souls of the Nordic Middle Ages and received the Nobel Prize in Literature. After a broken marriage and a long search, she converted to Catholicism in an almost wholly Lutheran Norway, which drew fierce attacks. A resolute opponent of Nazism, she had to flee her country in 1940.

In their own words

What you scream in your heart does not become a prayer until you have said your Pater noster without deceit.

Kristin Lavransdatter

She had not come to God as long as the world still possessed a drop of sweetness to add to her goblet; but now she had come.
