Who was Matthias Mulumba Kalemba?
A chief in Buganda, married, past fifty, he had been a Muslim, then a catechumen, then baptised, and taught the faith to those around him. Arrested with King Mwanga's pages, he refused to walk any further on the road to Namugongo; his limbs were cut off at Old Kampala and he was left at the edge of a swamp. Men cutting reeds heard him for three days, calling for water.
